Brokers and connections

Who is connected, how several brokers work at once, and where the keys live.

The terminal connects to a broker directly, through our own adapter for their API. There is no server of ours between you and the broker: orders leave from your machine.

Connected today

  • OANDA — forex, metals, CFDs.
  • Bybit — spot and perpetuals.
  • Paper account — its own quote stream, practice without money.

Interactive Brokers is deferred for now: an individual is required to run a local gateway there, and OAuth is granted to organisations. The seam for it is drawn in advance, in our own terms — account, position, order, execution, commission, candle — so that replacing the sign-in costs one layer rather than a rewrite.

Several brokers at once

Tabs work simultaneously: the second broker lives in the background and keeps price and percent current while you look at the first. Account currency comes from the broker of that tab, not assumed to be shared.

Statistics are still counted for the selected broker. Adding up accounts with different currencies and conditions produces a number that means nothing.

Keys

A broker key stays on your machine. The file is created readable by its owner only, and the permissions are set before the write, not after: between creating the file and narrowing the permissions the secret would be readable by every user of the machine.

With encryption on, the file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM; the key is derived from a passphrase through PBKDF2 with 200,000 iterations, with a random salt and nonce. Keys enter sync as ciphertext — the server cannot read them, it has no passphrase.

Orders

Market and pending, straight from the chart. Pending orders are validated the way the broker validates them: Buy Stop above the price, Sell Stop below, Buy Limit below, Sell Limit above — otherwise a refusal with an explanation, not a silent “did not work”.

Take-profit and stop-loss live as lines on the chart: drag one and the level changes at the broker.
