Install and update
What the machine needs, how to install on Windows, macOS and Linux, what the system will say and how updates work.
The terminal installs from a prebuilt package for your system. The source code is the same for all of them; only the packaging differs.
What the machine needs
| Requirement | |
|---|---|
| Windows | Windows 10 or 11, x64 |
| macOS | macOS 12 or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel |
| Linux | x86_64, Qt 6.5 or newer, RPM package |
| Disk | 20 MB installed, plus room for cached price history |
| Memory | about 160 MB with one chart open |
| Network | a permanent connection: sign-in, quotes and account state live on the broker's side |
Windows
You download an .exe installer (Inno Setup). It installs into C:\Program Files\Quasar Trading Terminal, asks for administrator rights, and closes a running terminal by itself when installing over an existing copy.
Windows will say “Unknown publisher”: the installer carries no publisher signature, and Windows signing is not planned for now. That is about the signature, not the contents. How to check the file is ours is written on a separate page — “Why the installer is not signed”.
Check it yourself:
certutil -hashfile quasar-trading-terminal-1.0.2-windows-x64.exe SHA256The result must match the sum published on the download page for Windows.
macOS
You download a .dmg image and move the app into Applications. There are two images, Apple Silicon and Intel — take yours; a universal image is on the way.
Until the app is notarised, macOS refuses to open it. The Apple developer account is paid for and signing with notarisation arrives in the next release. Until then: System Settings → Privacy & Security → “Open Anyway”. Or clear the quarantine flag by hand:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Quasar Trading.app"Linux
An RPM package, installed the usual way:
sudo dnf install ./quasar-trading-terminal-1.0.2-linux-x64.rpmDependencies are Qt 6.5 or newer from your distribution. The package is not signed with a GPG key, so the package manager will ask for confirmation.
First launch
- Sign in with your quasargen.com account — the same one as on the site. Settings, chart drawings and journal notes sync through it.
- Connect a broker: OANDA, Bybit or the paper account. Broker keys stay on your machine; with encryption on, the file is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and what goes into sync is ciphertext — the server cannot read it.
- Set your risk limits straight away: per trade, per day, per week. Better set with a clear head, before the first trade.
Updating
On launch the terminal compares its version with the site. An outdated copy refuses to run: a mismatch between client and server means a mismatch in the sync contract, and stopping at the door beats losing data halfway.
That is why only the current version is offered for download — an old file would be dead weight. An update installs over the old copy; settings and drawings survive, because they live in your account rather than in the program folder.
Removing
Windows — the usual uninstall. macOS — drag the app to the bin. Linux — sudo dnf remove quasar-trading-terminal.
Local settings stay in your user profile; synced ones stay in your account on the site and are deleted together with it.
